Artificial Intelligence (AI)

'Responsible' AI...

AI > Responsible AI > Nutshell (Summary)

It's necessary to empower individuals with control and autonomy; however, this empowerment can be illusory in the face of complex and opaque AI systems. Users are provided with superficial controls over their data, but the underlying algorithms driving AI decision-making remain obscure and inaccessible. The illusion of empowerment masks the fact that users are often at the mercy of algorithms they can't comprehend or influence, rendering their supposed control symbolic at best.

Individuals are cast as mere participants in a technological landscape dominated by powerful corporations and developers. The narrative of individual agency becomes suspect when the broader context of corporate interests and profit motives is taken into account. The reality is that individuals might have limited impact in shaping responsible AI, overshadowed by the influential decisions made by tech giants and the industry at large. The rhetoric of personal responsibility can inadvertently shift blame onto users for potential ethical lapses, distracting from the structural issues that demand collective, systemic change.
