Your GPU isn't just a 'Graphics' card anymore - it's super processor - that can be accessed and used for more than just drawing fancy graphics. Don't get me wrong, sweet juicy graphics are great! But it's cool to be able to get all that GPU power, and speed up your physics simulations, real-time AI bots, fluid calculations, encryption (security), .... no limit to what it can be used for once you can access it. In the past, you might have had to deal with the 'graphics' pipeline - hacking in workarounds to get the GPU to do your work - but with newer generation of API and tools - it does not need to be like that! In fact, workign with the GPU is a walk in the park! No need to worry about all those pipeline stages and conversion between formats and so on.
